Cantaria Beetle or Mormon Cricket

This is a giant dry fly. It’s even bigger than it looks in the photos!  It’s tied on a slick black, 2/0 fairly light wire hook so it works excellent for big trout.

We use this fly on our trips to South America where we might encounter some opps to fish with patterns imitating the Cantaria Beetle. Often the trout prefer smaller beetles, but it is so fun casting and watching a hungry trout react to a meal the size of a hamster!

Use 1X tippet with this fly and short leader, 7′ or less is recommended.
